> The Wharf project

As we have seen in the Echo this week (Sept 23rd) William Davis builders in conjunction with the land owners British Waterways, have submitted there plan and vision for how The Rushes and The Wharf should be developed, and how it should look.

Although the Council may have had honourable intentions in attracting new and big business to the region we have ended up with empty inappropriately designed 'tin barns' rather than Market Town Architecture sympathetically blended into the existing environment.

Churchgate Mews illustrates the style of development the Borough can produce - being small, unique and relatively affordable business units that compliment the architecture that has gone before and still exists in the town.
This is what makes a town interesting, worthwhile and attractive and will maintain the towns feel of heritage and give us the edge over the multinationals and city shopping.
Small is great ! Difference is crucial - we will fail as a town if we try to compete with the big three cities.

Wharf Action Group has a vision on how this valuable attraction should look and could be used, please take a look at our vision and please take the time to tell us what you feel, and which you prefer.

This could be used as a test case to see if local government responds to public opinion.

Thankyou for taking part in my survey.

Option 1 :

This is how the Loughborough wharf could look in the near future if the planning application by British Waterways Ltd, with William Davis as developers, meets with the approval of Charnwood Borough Council.

Option 2 :

The vision of The Wharf Action Group (W.A.G) will offer a chance for the wharf to become part of the town centre - a people friendly, open amenity site. Acting as a tourist attraction and an ideal destination for boaters to enjoy our market, town and beautiful countryside.
